The United States of America is a Federal Republic in North America with 50 states. The country is the third largest state in the World after Russia and Canada. The United States came into being in 1776 with the declaration of independence. Nowadays The USA is the only remaining superpower in the world. There are large variations in the landscape which makes it impossible to define a typical landscape for this large country. Forest areas, large rivers and lakes, big plateaus, high mountain ranges, temperate rain forests as well as arctic regions and tropical islands all characterize the American landscape .

Climate:
The climate is very different in the various regions of the country and this makes it difficult to characterize the climate of the country. The USA can be divided into six climate regions, excluding Alaska and Hawai: Northwest Pacific is the wettest part of the country with mild tempertures all year round. The average temperature is 32C. Mid/South Pacific Rockies have generally dry and delightful summers with mild winters. In the Midwest the climate is very dry with excellent summers but extreme winter temperatures. In the Northeast summers are sunny and warm. Winters can have a lot of snow and freezing rain. In the Southeast summers are very hot and dry. Winters are quite mild and short. Southern Florida has excellent weather all year round and in the Southwest, summers are very hot with high humidity. This area is the hottest and the highest rainfall area of the United States.
